MARK HOUBENHOUSES FOR KASSEL |
The project gives five houses to the city of Kassel. These five houses are named in German: Kunsthaus, Wohnhaus, Parkhaus, Werkhaus and Kaufhaus. Although a wide variety of functions is stored inside, the five buildings make one family. Their appearance s subtle but firm. All together they make a new typology for Kassel. In the city center as it is now two dominating typologies can be discovered. First there is the so called traditional Kassel type. The modern type is the second one. This project adds a new architectural typology. The five buildings can be recognized as an independent series, however they communicate with the surrounding elements. Five blank spots in the inner city area are chosen. All of them are linked to the pattern of the public pedestrian area and are characterized by a stategic position and by a certain scale. On each spot one of the five houses is projected. When realised, this project will make a mutation of the neglected part of the city center possible. GO TO OTHER PROJECTS |
